As a makeup artist, you will encounter every skin type imaginable. Identifying the skin type correctly dictates your choice of primer, foundation, and setting products.
1. Oily Skin
- Signs: Visible pores, shine throughout the face, makeup slides off easily.
- Prep: Use a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer.
- Makeup: Mattifying primer, long-wear matte foundation. Set heavily with loose powder, especially in the T-zone.
2. Dry Skin
- Signs: Tightness, flaking, dullness, fine lines appear more visible.
- Prep: Rich moisturizer or facial oil. Wait for it to absorb.
- Makeup: Hydrating primer, glowing or satin finish liquid foundation. Avoid heavy powders; set only where necessary.
3. Combination Skin
- Signs: Oily T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) but dry cheeks.
- Prep: Multi-moisturizing (light on T-zone, rich on cheeks).
- Makeup: You may need to use two different primers or spot-set with powder.
4. Sensitive Skin
- Signs: Redness, burning, reactive to new products.
- Prep: Fragrance-free, hypoallergenic skincare.
- Makeup: Mineral makeup or clean beauty brands. Always do a patch test if possible.
